The rarest fastback
Austin, TX
1966 red dash fastback with factory steel sliding sunroof. This is a true red dash car with all red interior. It is either Canadian or Euro, has the side marker lights and instead of the rear script reading Volkswagen it reads VW 1600 TL. The TL is for Touring Luxus. The car is all original except for: converted to dual port with Weber 34 ICT's, KymCo "over the top" ceramic coated exhaust, and bead-blasted Porsche Cookie cutter wheels. Lowered. It is still 6 volt, has an OG radio that WORKS, am/fm/short wave. Before more good news, here's the bad news. RUST. I bought this car in Idaho about 4 years ago. The car looked awesome and actally had a light undercoating beneath the paint around the bottom 2" of the car because of the severity of the roads out there. It looked really professional and nice. But a couple of years in Texas made the rockers show the rust and then I found more rust. When I pulled up the old interior I actually found rust behind the back seat side panels. OK so here's the rust check---rockers are obliterated, it needs new pan halves, and the quarter panels need some welding. That's really all the bad news, and here's the rest of the good... I found some NOS and barely used original interior pieces. Most of which came from a collector who had been storing the stuff for over 10 years. Here's what I have: Very nice Original red dash Very nice OG red door panels NOS red Z-armrests with NOS red armrest pads Very nice OG red carpet(main piece) NOS rear bottom seat cover Nice red rear side panels Nice red front seat covers Refurbished Ruby Red stock steering wheel by Koch's there may have been something I forgot to mention but all interior is original and complete except a couple of carpet pieces are black and 2 dash knobs which I have replaced with original looking ivory painted stainless steel ones. This car is 100% complete. It ran great but right now I need to adjust and synch the carbs really bad. To be honest these carbs are a pain in the but. I won't lie. Serious inquiries only please. Thanks Mike
